Three Different Holiday Shipping Methods: Which Is Right For You?

Many people send presents or customer orders for the holidays

. You may want to send just a few gifts or a card, or you may wish to send the makings of an entire holiday celebration, from the presents to the food. How much you need to ship for the holidays depends upon where your family is located and where you intend to spend your holiday separation. The size and weight of your shipment, as well as your budget and the time you have before your shipment needs to arrive, are going to determine what the best holiday shipping method is for you.

There are three different choices to consider for sending your holiday goods:

1. Ocean freight

Ocean freight is a great option for sending holiday items outside of the United States. You may be spending Christmas in the Caribbean or have family back in Mexico, for example, that you want to send holiday items too. Ocean freight shipping can allow you to send items anywhere at far less cost than other international shipping methods.

When you ship holiday items via ocean freight, container shipping may be a good option for sending large loads. A good shipping company will also give you the option of either sending a full container of stuff or using less-than-full container load shipping to save money if you have less to send.

Ocean freight shipments can take a little longer than other international shipping methods available, so you will want to plan ahead if you intend to use this method for shipments for the holiday season. After all, you want to make sure your shipment arrives before the holidays approach. By sending your shipment a little earlier, however, youll spend less on shipping and have more money available to spread holiday joy.

2. Air freight

Air freight is another option for holiday shipping. Air freight involves using air transportation to send items either within the United States or to other countries. Air freight is typically the very fastest way to get your item sent to its destination (especially if you choose a shipping company with a presence in many airports some good shipping companies, for example, send to more than 150 different airports).

Air freight shipping can be a little more expensive than other kinds of holiday shipping methods, though, so you need to take the cost into account when deciding if air freight is right for you. Not only that but shipping very large or heavy items via air freight may not be practical, so if you are sending more than just a few gifts or cards for the holidays, you may be better off exploring another shipping option.

3. Ground transport

Finally, a last good option for holiday shipping is to send items via ground transport. For goods within the U.S., this is an affordable alternative to air transport. You can even send large amounts of goods or bigger commercial shipments via ground transport by taking advantage of full truckload and less-than-full truckload shipping choices.
