Things to do in Phoenix

You'd be surprised how many times a Phoenix native will get asked what to do in their city. Usually given the time constraint of one day to get it all done with. This may be interesting to mull over, but impossible to come to any fixed idea. Really Phoenix is one of the great overlooked cities of America, with a whole range of activities.

It all depends on what you like there are attractions here for sports fans, featuring one of the best ball parks in the world. Then there are some great places to shop, stroll through or take in some art.

It is also a beautiful cityscape, wonderfully decorated with some lovely sculptures and great buildings. So if you are trying to do all of Phoenix in a day you will probably find yourself unable, but here are some suggestions of things that you may want to take in. Even better you could stay for longer in one of the Phoenix rentals and give yourself a real chance to get to know this wonderful city.Things to do in Phoenix

Her Secret is Patience

Her Secret is Patience is a renowned Janet Echleman sculpture, which since its recent completion only a few years ago, has become one of Phoenix's icons. It hovers over Civic Space Park in the middle of the town and is now one of the most arresting sights in the town, a highlight in the days of students who pass under it on their way to their colleges.

This magnificient piece imitates the movement of cumulus clouds, as it sways to the rhythm of the wind, acting as a visual representation of the Arizona desert winds that blow through this city.

This 2.5 million dollar sculpture now seems indispensable. Its name comes from a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson; during its production it was unofficially called Sky Bloom.

The Heard Museum

Every city and town has its main museum, yet Phoenix's Heard Museum is quite unlike any other. It has a great collection on display, featuring some excellent cultural artefacts and boasting some very important artworks. Yet it is the way that the museum displays them. Really rather unexpected and quite charming, this is a destination that natives return to again and again.

The Museum also plays host to some annual events such as the yearly hoopla hoop competition, and the Heard museum Indian Fair and Market taking place every March.

Chase Field

Chase Park is one of the most cutting edge ball parks in all of America. Phoenix led the way with this state of the art stadium which was built with a retracting roof that closes in just five minutes in case of any sudden change in the weather. It is also the only park to feature central heating and air conditioning, with a field made out of real turf.

For Phoenix baseball fans this is the crowning jewel in the city, and for any baseball fans visiting it is a must see, the next stage in baseball parks.
