Although the official religion in Kuala Lumpur is Islam, other religions are also freely practiced, with the most common ones being Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Sikhism and Christianity.
The main gateway to Kuala Lumpur is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is at Sepang, 75 kilometers away towards the south of the city center. It takes about one hour to drive to the city center. There are two main buildings at the airport, namely, the Satellite Building and Main Terminal Building. The Satellite Building is where international flights arrive. The Aero train goes to the Contact Pier at the International Level.
You will be required to provide either a valid passport or another document that is recognized internationally. The minimum validity period is six months past the time you would like to spend here.
Ringgit (RM) is the Malaysian currency, and 100 sen make RM1. The notes are denominated into 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Ringgits. One US dollar is about 3.2 Ringgits.
You will need to fill a Travelers Declaration Form both when you enter and depart to state the amount of currency you either bring in or take out. As a non-resident, you are allowed to bring in a maximum of RM1,000 Ringgit notes and any amount of foreign currency. During your departure, you are not allowed to take out more than RM1,000 Ringgit notes and more foreign currency than what you brought in.
You will also complete a disembarkation card that you will give an immigration officer together with the Travelers Declaration Form.
You will find taxi booths just as you leave the Arrivals Hall, and you can use either an airport limousine service or a budget taxi service. The taxis operate on a coupon system. You will also find Airport Coach Services a floor down from the Arrivals Hall.
There are different modes of transportation that you can use, including taxis, buses, trains, rented cars, Sistem Aliran Transit Ringan, Keretapi Tanah Melayu, Putra LRT and Monorail.
Tipping is usually not expected because the restaurants and hotels often add 5% government tax and 10% service charge on the bills.
