It comes around at the same time every year. Yet it's strange how so many people seem to ignore all the signs of the approaching festive season until it's almost on us. Few people seem to realise that, these days, the shops are actually only closed for two and a half days at the most, and instead grab far more than they really need off the supermarket shelves as the shop owners stand back and rub their hands with glee. The reality is that, behind the scenes, companies offering important services such as parcel delivery anticipate the peaks and troughs in demand, and ensure that they have enough staff on hand to cope with them. After all, for them it's just good business common sense to do so.
It's probably true that most retailers would prefer not to be besieged for a fortnight from early December every year, because they must be aware that no one really enjoys fighting their way through the crowds. A similar panic can be seen annually as people realise that the last posting dates for Christmas parcels and cards are looming. Online shoppers are often better at remembering these deadlines, because they get constant reminders of them from the sites they use.
Yet in every case, the delivery companies have had their own plans in place weeks ahead of these cut-off dates, so there is really no excuse for not taking advantage of their services in good time.
