The Weed Trimmer For The Job

The Weed Trimmer For The Job

A well-kept, manicured lawn must be trimmed in order to look complete

. The tools that work best for trimming lawns are weed trimmers. Every manufacturer of lawn tools sells a variety of weed trimmers. Some trimmers only do a single type of trim job, while others are adjustable to complete every kind of lawn trimming from regular edging around trees, shrubs, and fences to edging of the patio, walkway or driveway.

There are basically three kinds of trimmers. The differences are the power source: gas, electricity and battery.

If a trimmer is gas-powered it is generally more powerful and lasts longer. Owners of large properties prefer the gas-powered variety because it doesn't require a cord or a recharge. Its versatility allows the operator to go anywhere. There are two drawbacks to the gas-powered trimmer. They are loud and heavy. Test the weight of the trimmer before purchase.

The corded electric trimmer is ideal for the property owner with a very small lawn and only a small amount of trim work. They require very little maintenance, are very lightweight, and are quieter than a gas-powered trimmer. The purchase of a heavy-duty extension cord is necessary along with a corded electric trimmer.

The cordless electric trimmer is the third choice available. It is suited to average size properties and perfect for the owner who doesn't want to deal with the weight and noise of a gas-powered trimmer or an electric cord. However, the cordless model can weigh as much as 15 pounds, while the corded model can weigh as little as 3 pounds. The time it takes to trim the lawn must be taken into consideration, since running times between charges vary greatly between brands.

There are several add-on attachments to purchase to make the trimming equipment even more versatile. These attachments include a blower, edger, brush cutter, cultivator and pruner. Each brand has its own available attachments.

Safety equipment should also be considered when trimming equipment. Debris is thrown into the air during the cutting process so it is important to wear safety goggles. Gardening gloves may relieve the pressure of carrying and operating the equipment. Wearing long pants is advisable to reduce or eliminate the possibility of being cut on the leg by the rotating plastic cord or string. A pair of earplugs will provide protection from loud noise over an extended period of time.

There are several things to consider when purchasing equipment to trim the lawn. The power source, weight and noise are all important factors in choosing the right equipment to get the job done in the most efficient and economical way possible.
