Can you say one of the best? Texas football has been a traditional powerhouse for a bunch of years. They have been in the Big 12 conference for going on 15 years now. During the years of the program, the Longhorns have won 4 national titles. A whopping 32 conference championships. However, out of all these successful seasons, Texas only has two prior Heisman winners.
Trailing only one other football program(USC) for most post-season bowl game appearances. A total of 1196 games played which ranks them #8 in this statistical category. The Longhorns have played in a BCS game 4 out of 12 years & being victorious in three of those appearances. One of those was a high-stakes national championship game back in 2005 against USC. The other two BCS wins were against fellow powerhouses OSU & another one against USC.
There's Cattle on the Court
The men's basketball program started play back in 1906. The Texas basketball program has been successful as well. They have made 12 consecutive NCAA tournaments. Add to that, 11 consecutive seasons of 20+ wins.
A team that despite all the success can't claim a coveted national title. However, a proven track record of winning conference championships. A current man in command(Rick Barnes) that has success written all over his resume at Texas. He may have left Clemson but Texas was sure glad to get him. A coach at Texas that has won well over 70% of the games he's coached. Having a former basketball alumni that's a current NBA star. A player that only spent his freshman season before leaving for pro basketball. This player, Kevin Durant, is now a high rising star for the OCT(Oklahoma City Thunder).
Men's Baseball
Texas baseball has been at the top of the ladder amongst other college baseball programs. Texas is ranked #1 when it comes to winning percentage. They also rank #2 in terms of total wins. They also hold the record for the most appearances at the College World Series. And, also holds the record for most CWS victories. Their resume also includes 6 total national titles. This number makes them trail only Souther Cal for the most national championships.
Texas has claimed 75 total conference titles as well. There have been quite a few Texas baseball alumni that have gone on to play MLB. Maybe the most famous player is Roger Clemens. The current skipper for Texas baseball is Augie Garrido. He's been head coach since 1997. Texas has the record for playing in the longest recorded baseball game in history as well. They played a 25-inning game against Boston College in 2009.
