The Ultimate Guide to Summer Relaxation by:Frank Rabey

Where do you go when you just want to just forget everything and take some time off for yourself

?

For most, the answer is vacation. But with the economic downturn a vacation just doesn't fit in their budget. Many people will choose to stay at home due to money being tight and are a little uneasy about job security. The addition of a sunroom or a deck can prove to be very costly so that is also not an option.

It's probably looking like its going to be impossible to kick back and relax this summer. But did you know you can have a mini-vacation in your own back yard?

You can start by adding a line of ornamental trees to add privacy. Although you won't achieve the full effect this summer, each new spring the trees will add more and more privacy. The trees will also add a substantial amount of shade to your yard and possibly your home as well and help reduce electricity bills by keeping your home cooler in the summer without the need to keep the air conditioning running all the time.

Next up is a hammock. Hammocks have been in use for centuries as a way to relax. Don't settle for less than quality brands as they will not even last you through the summer. It will feel like you have been lifted out of your busy life and give you a sense of being supported while being up off the ground. With new developments in technology, hammocks are getting better and better in quality of construction as well as comfort. You will want something that can resist harsh weather so choose a hammock constructed of power-coated steel or durable wood like cypress.

Find a shady spot, roughly 16-by-5 feet, of flat ground for your hammock, you don't want to fall sleep in direct sunlight and wake up burned. Add some small plants and flowers near your hammock and maybe even add some paving stones for a pleasant accent.

Your kids will also love the hammock, though younger children should never be left unsupervised in a hammock.

A well made hammock will provide just as much enjoyment and relaxation as a vacation without ever having to leave your backyard.
