The Taiwan semiconductor company faces the supply shortage in Japan

As to the media report, the Taiwan semiconductor manufacturers are the important part of the world science and technology supply chain. They are anxious on how to get the raw material from Japan supplier. These wholesale electronics suppliers are affected by the Friday earthquake.

The United Microelectronics, ProMOS Technologies and other companies said they are not certain how long the silicon chip shortage will last. And they don't know how the power failure will affect the supplier. The analyst thinks it will last for one or two months.

"There exsits influence. But we don't what will it cost." The vice president of Powerchip Eric Tang said. Its chip supplier is located in the northerneastern of Japan. "We are trying to learn the thing. But we can't contact with our supplier."The Taiwan semiconductor company faces the supply shortage in Japan

The Japan suppliers exported 50% of the 12 inch chip and the 30% of the 8 inch chip to Taiwan. The supply break up will lead to the higher price of the semiconductor customer. The purchaser of computer, smartphone as well as the electronic components will pay more on the product.

"The influence on the consumers depends on the necessity of the device." The seminconductor analyst Chen Hung-yi of Taishin Securities said, "The price will be adjusted. But the public acceptance on the unnecessary goods will be lower."

Many companies said they held the business meeting on Moday to discuss the influence brought by the Japan earthquake. United Microelectronics make an evaluation on the possible influence. They don't raise the price because lacking of the suitable supplier. ProMOS said they can still get the raw material from Japan because their suppliers are around the whole Japan. But the long term supplier is not that certain.

The analyst said the semiconductor market will not be affected in long term as the power and traffic system return to normal. The modern country Japan can recover from the earthquake within two months. Not all the manufacturers will feel anxious.

The TSMC is the world largest foundrymen in the world. It can maintain 30-day normal operation without the supply. The Spokeman Elezabeth Sun said, "I don't think the earthquake is a problem for TSMC. The Japan traffic will recover within thirty days."

The Taiwan top smartphone design house High-Tech (HTC) Computer is a purchaser of the semiconductor. Its supply and sales chain haven't been affected. But it's still of future condition and keep the operation smooth.
