The National Tickets - Running A National Tour For May Release

Preparing to debut High Violet May 11th, the National finishes up the last few dates

from their spring tour as they gear up for an international summer outing. Following tour dates scattered throughout March and April, the group will continue to perform throughout North America with dates in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Toronto, Manchester and New York until June 16. Then the rockers will continue through the summer with dates around the globe - hitting cities like Oslo, Norway; Gothenburg, Sweden and St. Malo, France.

The jaunt features several festival dates as well as special events at Bonnaroo, the Glastonbury Festival, Lollapalooza, La Route Du Rock Festival and the Haldern Festival. Fans got a sneak peak of the group's extensive talent in April when Scott worked his DJ skills in a New York City music outlet for "Record Store Day," an event promoting the new singles as well as the National's brand. If you're ready to hear High Violet live, pick up the National tickets online today.

"For a long time, we weren't sure what kind of band we were, or even wanted to be," vocalist Matt Berninger said to Black Book Magazine recently. "But on [High Violet], we knew we wanted to get away from the confessional-man vibe that people have come to expect from us." The result is the country-rock Americana sound of the '70s that, as Berninger says, is much "grimmer and meaner than our other records." The fifth set from the Cincinnati natives turned Brooklyn hoodlums, the National has been taking the indie underground seen of the City of Rocks by storm since the early '00s.

This May release follows May 2007's Boxer, a sophomore release from Beggars Banquet that ended up being the National's last with that label. The set featured orchestration by the Clogs' Padma Newsome with piano work by Sufjan Stevens. It was also the first to chart on the Billboard 200, peaking at 67 after the group's Alligator, an indie release from 2005 that was hailed as the best indie album of the year by a Los Angeles Times critic. The Ohio based outfit's latest release, the fifth studio effort High Violet, is the first 4AD release that saw mixing throughout the year in the group's new Brooklyn studio. Talking to Pitchfork.com last summer during production work, guitarist Bryce Dressner revealed the creation of their own Brooklyn studio following the release of Boxer. "It's the first time we've ever had our own space, so we're just working our asses off trying to get that done. And we're kind of pinching ourselves because it seems like it's actually coming together." The group came through in the end, as High Violet was recorded in this underground scene where all five members currently live.

Comprised of Berninger, Scott and Bryan Devendorf and Aaron and Bryce Dessner, the group released their studio debut The National in 2001. They returned following critical acclaim with Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers via production work by Peter Katis. Katis has since helped the National finalize their sound throughout the decade, working on the EP Cherry Tree in 2004, Alligator in 2005, Boxer in 2007, Boxer recording sessions in 2008 and The Virginia EP in 2008.
