The Massive Popularity of Optimus Prime Toys
When the Transformers aired in 1984, exactly who would have guessed we would be still
raving about a cartoon pertaining to human like robots that can convert into automobiles and planes in order to save our world? Nonetheless what began as a Saturday morning children's cartoon expanded into a multi-million dollar franchise over the years. Action figures are nothing new to the toy industry, and there is little indication today of the trend slowing down in the near future. Optimus Prime toys together with other items along those lines, have persisted to remain a staple in the toy boxes and Christmas dream lists of little kids since the early eighties.
The original Optimus Prime action figure included its own trailer to hitch on to it whenever Prime was in his "truck mode". The rig's front grill plate has ever since then become synonymous with the "good" transformers of the collection, the Autobots. Everyday admirers may not know that the initial name for the Prime toy was "battle convoy", but ultimately the name was altered by comic book writer/editor Dennis O'Neil. The standard was now set for the subsequent line of Prime figures.
Pre-Millennium Prime
Transformers began to adjust during the nineties following a decade-long run at the head of the group. Should you look back at the Optimus Prime products, this shift becomes slight yet recognizable. The action figures themselves started to sell as non-transformable toys oddly enough. Several included gear like fight platforms and other gadgets, literally. One model of Prime in 1993 added an LED pulsating fist.
Prime also went through what you could refer to as a makeover in the early 90s. One line of toys modified the head of the Autobot's regular red, white and blue look in favor of a red-black splash of paint. The change turned out to be temporary however simply because by this time Prime's picture had become associated with the Transformers franchise. The show would actually spin off various off shoots of different transformers in an attempt to keep up with the times and capture brand new viewers.
Prime According to Hollywood
Michael Bay's reinvention of the Transformers series debuted in 2007, starting yet another demographic of youth to the adventures of Prime and his Autobots versus Megatron and also the devious Decepticons. Other transformers may have transformed their forms, but Prime remained basically the same Prime that survived the test of time. Other Autobots developed into the most recent designs of sports and utility autos, but Bay's Prime kept his big rig transforming same at it has been since the 80s, although with the newest CGI special effects.
