The Korean Language - Learning The Ropes Online

Learning the Korean language well enough to converse comfortably during a vacation could be an easy matter

. Follow a few simple suggestions to begin picking up words and phrases, and you should be able to hold a conversation in Korean within 8 weeks.

Studying the language online is not an effective method. Online teachers do not concern themselves with all angles of the language. For example, sentence structure is generally left out of the syllabus. It does not matter if you enroll in a course offered by a Korean teacher or an English-speaking one. They generally fail on this point. Their courses were designed a long time ago, and no one wants to change them now.

Sentence structure is a critical part of learning and retaining the Korean language just as it is with any tongue. When you just learn the words, you will usually translate these from English every time you go to use them. When you do this, the sentence does not make sense in Korean. In English, your words might be in the correct order, but that does you no good when you are touring Korea. Start with structure and you will understand the subtleties of meaning which really matter. This way you will pick up the language more quickly.

Another reason why it is better to learn in proper sentences rather than just word by word is that this leads to retrieving words from your memory in a natural way. For some reason, the brain responds better to this method of learning. In the meantime, your vocabulary gets bigger more quickly, and you approach the language in a similar way to that of someone who grew up speaking Korean.

Practice is essential. Try out your new sentences and words every day. If you use a CD-based program this will allow you to incorporate studies and practice into daily life, while you are ironing or cooking supper for instance. In fact, this is the best way to learn in the shortest amount of time. Attending classes weekly will not always be enough to enable you to solidify what you learned. It will all leach out during the intervening week, and you will probably never have anyone to speak the Korean language with.

The only caution is that you ensure the course you choose incorporates sentences at the very beginning. From CD number one, you should be learning how to arrange your vocabulary like someone from Korea would.
