The Kenyan Male Child

The Kenyan Male Child

The Kenyan Male Child

From the moment he was born, his life was a continued celebration. If he happened to be the first born, he was more important to his father than even his mother was. Special attention and treatment was accorded him. His sisters were less important than he was. They were there to make his life simpler by doing the chores such as cooking and cleaning up after his mess. His clothes were washed by his sisters. As he grew older, his father taught him about life and he was let into the secrets of his father's livelihood. He was supposed to take over his father's wealth after he was gone a thing the girl child could never have.

The life of a boy child was simpler than that of his sister. He did not have alot to do around the home other than look after goats and cattle. He had more play time with his friends than the girls. He was allowed to go to school when his sister stayed in the house. He had the freedom of having friends, even of the opposite sex and bring them over but the girl child could not go anywhere without special permission from the mother.

The Kenyan male child got to inherit his entire father's wealth. If they were many brothers, the father would divide it among them according to how he favors them. The girls did not inherit anything from their father. In fact, they were not regarded as members of the family but of the place they were to get married to.
