Taking a One-Day tour at Zaanse Schans

Just 20 minutes away from Amsterdam proper, Zaanse Schans is a great village to visit for those looking for a bygone era in Amsterdam and Dutch history. There are so many details in this town that show remnants of it as an old 17th century industrial village from the clog workshop, the still working windmills which allow visitors in on selected days and the cheese factory. The latter gives out free cheese samples for passing travelers. One can either bike going to Zaanse Schans or take the train to Koog Zaandjik and then walking about 10 minutes going to the museum village. The village is meant to be a day trip however if you want to stay overnight, theres the Hotel Sans Pareil available for you. Dont forget to drop by the Museum Zaans in order to know about the local customs and history of the whole village.

Why Amsterdams Centrum is Worth the Visit

Centrum, apt to its name, has everything Amsterdam has to bring tourists centralized in one area. Theres the Royal Palace of Amsterdam where Queen Beatrix of Netherlands lives occasionally, rotating around her four homes found around Netherlands. Before, it was closed due to safety reasons but has since opened again late last year to accommodate tourists and locals interested to see where royalty lives. Theres also Bloemenmarky, the worlds only floating market which sells mostly flowers. Souvenirs are also sold in the same market for those who want something unique to take home at affordable deals. Then of course, theres the Van Gogh Museum where the largest collection of the Dutch Painters works are found. Amsterdam is also famous for its small hidden museums found beside the canals with private residents or small organizations as curators. Prisengracht 263 where famous child diarist Anne Frank once lived with her family should also be visited. Other shops and restaurants in Centrum are bound to invite you along the way, so be sure to prepare some extra cash and a half-empty stomach always. Bike through the Country and Check out Muiderslot Castle

In the town of Muiden just 15 kilometers away from Amsterdam, the Muiderstlot Castle (from the word and town name muiden which means river mouth ) is set to celebrate their 132nd anniversary as a museum this coming 2010. Medieval arms, armories and paintings show their history as a residence of famous figures and as an ammunitions depot during the medieval period. The Muiderslot castle was restored back to its original beauty back in 1954 after having been threatened of demolition on several occasions prior before the government and the local town unit stepped in to officially name it as an important historical monument in Amsterdam, and the town of Muiden itself. Now, all of its rooms, kitchens and surrounding areas is as it was when the original owner, Count Floris V built it. From Amsterdam, one can either drive going to the castle or take a bus at Amstel Station which can take one to Muidens town center every 15 minutes.

Eat, Shop and Relax in Westerpark, Amsterdam

The greatest attraction is of course its namesake, Westerpark, which is a stunning combination of park and people along with strategically placed in waterscapes that allow locals and visitors to lounge around in the park all day long. Aside from its main feature though, Westerpark, Amsterdam also offers tourists many galleries, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and structures which surround the park. If youre looking for unique architectural finds, head off to Silodam or to Amsterdam School. Silodam is a beautiful structure that was designed by one of the award-winning architectural greats, MVRDV, which looks like a crate of boxes suspended on water. After the foot tour, go to a restaurant, maybe WestergasTerras where a nice view awaits through their terraces or to Rainarai for some authentic Algerian cuisine. For those on a budget, one can try the Caf Restaurant Amsterdam which serves delicious hearty meals in what used to be a 1900s engine room. See you there!
