The Timberland company was founded in 1918 by Nathan Swartz he began his shoe-making
career in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was an apprentice stitcher.From there the Swartz family introduced the injection-molding technology into the footwear industry. This began the production of virtually waterproof boots by connecting the soles to the leather uppers without stitching.
The brand name Timberland was introduced in 1973, Timberland was the name of the new waterproof leather boot launched by the company. Because the boot proved to be so popular, the company name was officially changed to The Timberland Company.
In the late 70s Timberland introduced the casual and boat shoe to its ever growing catalogue of footwear.
The 80s saw the Timberland go international starting in Italy and expanding to other countries from there, The company started branching out with clothing and women's shoes to it collection.
In the 90s Timberland started adding products such as Rucksacks, Watches and children's footwear making it one of the most popular fashion companies around.
1998 saw the launch of the Pro work boot collection proving to be very popular among the building and construction community.
