A highlight of the C-K AutumnFest is the Great Pumpkin House at 748 Beech Street in Kenova that welcomes over 20,000 visitors each Halloween season. Beginning with only five carved pumpkins in 1978 by homeowner Ric Griffith, the Great Pumpkin House now features over 3,000 hand-carved pumpkins lit from inside with candles for a spectacular display. This community effort supported by hundreds of volunteer pumpkin carvers every year inspired the birth of the C-K AutumnFest.
Today's C-K AutumnFest is a delight for the entire family. In addition to the Great Pumpkin House, there is an old-fashioned bake-off, testing the skills of the area's finest bakers. Holiday shoppers will find unique hand-made gifts for everyone on their lists at the many arts and crafts booths where you can meet the artisans and learn about their crafts. Food vendors near the Pumpkin House will keep you sated with delicious fare including, of course, fresh baked pumpkin bread.
During your visit to the area, you will want to include a visit to the Ceredo Museum to your weekend agenda. Founded in 1973-74 by the Ceredo Historical Society, the Ceredo Museum features fascinating railroad and Civil War memorabilia from this historic area. There, you can also view the Ceredo Petroglyph, which is the best preserved and largest petroglyph in the United States. The Ceredo Museum also features a collection of famous West Virginia hand blown mid-century glass.
