The Andros Trophy : Best Series Of Automobile

The Andros Trophy is a series of automobile and motorcycle races on ice

, held each winter since 1990. Despite some forays abroad (in Andorra and Sherbrooke in Quebec), it is essentially a French championship.

The birth of the Andros Trophy held at the meeting in 1985 between the former driver Max Mamers (rallycross champion France in 1982 and 1983 Talbot Matra Murena) and president of Andros, Frederic Gervoson. Both passionate about rugby but also automobile, they decided to set up a winter series of races on ice, raced in the French ski resorts.

The first round of the Andros Trophy takes place January 27, 1990 in Serre-Chevalier, and gives the kick-off of a small league of four tests. Over the years, the trophy won notoriety, and the timing of the championship gets denser, even to afford incursions into most unusual places, such as the Stade de France where the super-final of the Trophy was run 6 times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2008). This test is non-championship.

This is the championship of origin, in which are engaged the best teams and drivers the most exclusive, coming from diverse backgrounds. There are drivers from the rally, the rally-cross racing side, but also the circuit, whether tourism events (include Yvan Muller, who dominated the sport for nearly ten years) or the car (as Alain Prost and Olivier Panis). Alain Prost won the championship in 2007 and 2008.The Andros Trophy : Best Series Of Automobile

Each round of the championship consists of two full strokes (tests, qualifications and finals). The "Super Final", played at the Stade de France does not count for the championship and is a show demonstration.

The cars used are powered by engines of six cylinders to three-liter 340 hp. These are four-wheel drive.

The championship consists of three sub categories:

- Independent hopes for confirmed;

- Women for Women 1st;

- Promotion, as its name suggests, intended to prepare young drivers and serve as an antechamber to the elite category. In fact, it is also a popular category by the figures of the "showbiz" thrill seekers (include Henri Leconte, Richard Virenque, David Hallyday, Jean-Pierre Pernaut, Jean-Marie Bigard, Elodie Gossuin, etc.. ).

Elite races are held in three phases:

- A practice session where each driver is allowed to make up three laps;

- The qualifying sessions where four pilots perform at the same time four timed laps. The cumulative time of four towers is the basis for qualifying result. Each driver made two qualifying sessions, only the best of the two times being retained. The results of this phase can be credited with 80% of the points of a round of the championship and to determine the grid for the finals;

-The finals will compete in ten rounds in a pack of ten pilots. They can allocate 20 of points of a round of the championship. The top twenty drivers qualifying sessions compete both finals Elite Sup. Beyond the drivers involved in the finals Elite.

A maximum of one driver can win 80 points per race, 60 and 20 qualified for the final.The Andros Trophy : Best Series Of Automobile

The handicap weights are assigned to pilots who made the podium at the previous race. Thus, the winner of a race is penalized by 60 kg for the next race, the second and the third 40 kg to 20 kg. The driver who won the previous Andros Trophy has a "Lest Trophy" additional 20 kg (or 40 kg won the Andros Trophy more than once). This handicap will be reduced to 10 kg after each race where the driver will not be on the podium.This regulation sports events is not simple but is designed to give viewers a maximum of spectacular races and issues.

The "Pilot Bike, introduced in the Andros Trophy in 1996, is a championship reserved for motorcycle drivers. It is on the calendar of the French Federation of Motorcyclists (FFM) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).The bikes are used in a driving wheel and must be sold in France. They have a capacity of 125-300 cc for 2 strokes and 125-450 cc for 4 strokes. They are equipped with Continental tires.

The Championship Sprint-Car uses 600 cc buggies. There are two categories Sprint-Car (Drivers B) and Trophee Andros Feminin (Drivers A).In 2002, the organizers have created a league for women, and intended to promote the emergence of them in the higher classes of the Trophy. The Andros Trophy is played female driving buggies equipped with 600 cc engine.
