Termite Treatments

Termite Treatments

If termites are suspected or the presence of termites has been discovered, look into termite treatments immediately. Termites are destructive little buggers who subsist on anything cellulose. Termites are characterized by habitat and of the three different types; the termites that will invade your home are the subterranean and dry wood termites. Damp wood termites live in rotted logs, in wooded areas and forests, and will seldom attack a wooden structure. Termite treatments for those conditions should be considered if they are near a structure. Subterranean termites will build large underground nests and will climb out of their nest to a house through a termite constructed mud tunnel. Subterranean termites travel through mud tunnels as exposure to air; particularly cold air will have a detrimental effect on them. Dry wood termite colonies colonize in the wood and rarely leave except when the wood is gone. Termite treatments are best handled by a termite eradication specialist. It is never a good idea to spot treat termites. That is, only treat the area where they are found. It is necessary to treat the entire perimeter of the structure. A termite specialist will never treat just the infested areas and offer a warranty for the work. Termite treatments include treating the soil around the perimeter of the house. The soil treatment includes the injection of chemicals into the soil that form a barrier. The barrier does not allow the termites to gain access to the structure, and they will move on or die from lack of nutrients. The barrier will also prevent termites already in the structure from getting to the soil to get the moisture they need for survival. Termite treatments also include termite bait placed in the soil around the perimeter of the house, and when eaten, the termites will die. Worker termites feed the other termites by eating and then regurgitating the food for the other termites to eat. In a sense, the termites are eradicating themselves when termite bait is used. There are several termite treatments to combat dry wood termites. They include fumigating the entire structure, applying heat or cold to the affected areas, drill and inject termite eradicating chemicals into the effected wood and replacing the wood members in their entirety. Termite treatments used before an infestation is found is a good way to prevent termites from invading in the first place. It may be worth the cost of preventative treatment before any damage is done to protect your home. The cost to repair any damage will be far more than the cost of treatment.
