The ill effects may lead to chemical burns, pain due to sensitivity and increased risk of tongue cancer.

The dentists usually apply bleaching solutions containing peroxide to bleach the tooth enamel thus changing its color and bestowing a charming smile. The peroxide varies in concentration from 10 to 44%. These solutions are applied directly to the teeth entrenched in a plastic strip by a mouth guard.
The internal tooth bleaching involves drilling a hole to pulp chamber followed by cleaning, sealing and filling the root canal with a rubber-like substance. A peroxide gel is also placed into the chamber to directly act on the dentin layer. This peroxide is replaced over a period of time as and when needed. The teeth whitening lasts for very few days but can be executed again using the bleaching toothpastes.
