There seems to be an in-balance of technological resource when it comes to mobile telephones and the internet
. You can pretty much perform any task that you can perform on the internet on most of the new generations of mobile phones, but the same doesn't ring true when it comes to performing mobile phone services.
Many companies have tried over the years to supply users with an online text messaging service that would be both useful and resourceful to the general public. However, up until this point there have not been many successes. Early sites offered text messaging for free hoping that they could recoup some of the money through on site advertising. This proved to be unsuccessful as companies started to make losses on the sites that they set up.
Businesses have been utilising online text messaging services for a long time as employers attempt to stay in contact with their workers in the field. Companies especially like British Telecom have been utilising this type of hardware for a long time to communicate with their engineers in the field over the mobile tablet and it has worked well. It is slightly different for British Telecom as they already have the infrastructure in place. Computer operators in the call centres can utilise web technology to send online text messaging through the internet to their engineers to inform them about updates to their schedule and inform them about emergency jobs.
However, there are a number of companies that are now trying to break new ground in the market place and release technology that will allow user to send online text messaging via their email client or a GUI over the internet. This time though companies are looking into charging the clients for packages that will allow them to utilise the service for a limited time or up to a certain number of text messages.
Obviously there will be critics who claim that there is no need for a service like this as most people have mobile phones which include text messages as an optional extra. However, you would be amazed at the amount of people, generally older people, who don't have mobile phones. These new online text messaging packages would allow these people to stay in contact with their children who more than likely have mobile phones via their own home computer.
Technology is constantly evolving and it will be interesting to see what the computer and mobile networks look like in five or ten year's time.
