Tanzania facts related to it being known as the Cradle of Life are also good to know before visiting, especially if you plan to visit the Ngorongoro Crater and the Olduvai Gorge. The Olduvai Gorge is where the archeologists and anthropologists including the famous Leakey family have found some of the earliest known human remains and artifacts. This includes the Homo habilis fossils being found in the Olduvai Gorge in 1960. Other famous archeological finds in the Olduvai Gorge include the 1970 find of hominid footprints at the Laitoli Site. These footprints are believed to date back to over 3.6 million years ago.
