It is also important to dust the objects that you put on the shelf. You can use a feather duster for these as well except when wiping the spines of leather-bound books. Use a clean soft cloth for such items.
Often times upholstered furnishings get forgotten about when it comes to deep cleaning. Furniture gets a lot of wear and tear and abuse from so much use. Although it may not seem like a cleaning task, spring cleaning is a perfect time to change your batteries in smoke detectors. You can dust in that area while you are there. You need to remember though, that this should be done twice a year, and not just at spring cleaning time.
