Summertime Means Barbeques On The Back Deck
The summer time is coming and it is time be outside and enjoy the sun
. Many people do this from their decks. The barbeque on the back desk is all part of the American dream and pastime.Decks are a part of who we are as a country, but they do take some maintenance and some repair from time to time in order to keep them in good shape. With the stain or paint each year, much of the damage that can come from weather can be avoided and the deck can maintain a nice look all year long.
There are now decks that look like the traditional wood decks, but are not wood. They are made of a material that does not require all of the maintenance. These can be very nice, but they are still not the same a wood deck.
Part of the preparations after the deck is first built, before staining it, is to sand it very smooth and to knock all of the rough edges off. This is most typically done with a power sander that can be run over the top and make quick work of something that may otherwise have taken endless hours.
After this is done, then it is time to stain the deck and give it that rich wood look. There are many colors of stain, but no matter which one you choose, it will still be a very nice looking addition to the back of the house. Once the deck is stained, you should wait for a week or so before using it. It is also a good idea to wash it down before you sit down on it. If you do not do this you may find that you have some of the stains come off on your clothes.
Once a year or perhaps every other year your deck will need to be re-stained. It is a good idea to sand down any new rough spots before you re-stain your deck. This will help to keep it looking nice as well as make it weather proof to keep the rain and snow in the winter from damaging the wood on the deck.
The next time that you go over to a friend's house for a barbeque and you are out on their back deck, be sure to compliment them on the deck. This is a nice feeling after working so hard to maintain that deck.
