Summer Romance (Part 2)

Summer Romance (Part 2)

Summer Romance (Part 2)

Our story begins with Joanna and Juan watching the match between Argentina and Nigeria in the travel agency which in honor of its part owner is called "Warsaw Travels". It being Joanna who was rooting for an Argentine victory more for the sake of Juan than any real desire to see this nation which she had no connection with win. She being fascinated by seeing how intensely Juan lived the game. As if life itself depended upon it while she calmly observed with desires that his passion might guide his team to victory.

As for Joanna, she on that particular day had chosen to wear a short black dress (though not overly) which was neither elegant nor really casual yet was decorative as she in many ways was in her general appearance. Joanna, also having on a pair of open high heeled black shoes which showed her feet and the pedicure she took so much pride in. Juan however as much as he liked looking at Joanna, given he felt her to be a woman of above all elegance and sophistication, on this day was more interested in seeing Argentina win by a convincing score or at least get the three points and take that ever vital step closer to entering the second round of this tournament; than anything else.

Joanna could feel Juan's enthusiasm as she watched the match, almost as if she herself were Argentine and in need of a victory from this country as if it were her own. This the case even if she was not really such a big football fan. There was however a joy which was transmitted by Juan as he watched the game which she perhaps enjoyed more than the game itself but in all truth this was something she got from Juan regarding almost everything he did. This ranging from the enthusiasm he took in dealing with clients which did not limit itself to selling tickets or tour packs but actually went in to the details that went along with the job, such as explaining their options or simply talking about the places they would be venturing to. This perhaps being what Joanna as well as the clients of her travel agency had come to treasure above all from Juan. It being the fashion in which he could suggest places and describe them not only because he had been there himself but because he made it a point of remembering ways of how one could have a good time; seeing all the sights while avoiding certain problems which an unknowing tourists might have.Summer Romance (Part 2)

This perhaps being his most endearing feature to not only Joanna herself but her clients, who because of Juan had come to recommend her travel agency to all of their friends which had made it the most popular in this small New Jersey town. It also being of significance that Juan, due to his parents and the time he spent in their native Argentina was a fluent speaker of the Spanish language. It in fact being this factor which originally led to Joanna deciding to hire Juan. As most of the community in this small town as well as those of other nearby small towns which tended to use her agency were of a Hispanic background, who in fact spoke very little if any in the way of English yet it was precisely these clients who provided her with most of her agency's business. As they seemed to be almost in constant need of tickets to visit their families in places such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Juan definitely was a valuable asset to her agency as he not only was an efficient worker but had a very good relationship with her clients, some of which were not even aware that he was in fact not its owner. This despite the fact that Juan had only been working for Joanna since the start of the spring. It being at that time that Juan returned from Italy were he had spent a year studying photography. This perhaps along with traveling being his greatest passion as he even worked as a freelance photographer. Juan selling many of his photos to several magazines which earned him a significant income on the side which would have been enough to live on yet in all he did feel the need to have a second job, specially one in a travel agency. It being the case that it allowed him to purchase low priced tickets to many distinctions through out the world as well as take almost as much time off work as he needed whenever he simply wished to either get away from New York or simply "go abroad and explore the world" as he in his own words put it.

All of which making it clear to Joanna that having Juan work for her was a definite plus yet if there was one draw back? It was that he did have a tendency, due to some of his extended stays in some countries; to often change travel agencies. This meaning a loss of cliental to the agency which he left, as certain clients tended to trust him and at times even go on to other agencies yet Joanna was confident that Juan was happy working with her specially given the amount of money he earned. As well as having made many friends in the town were the agency was located. This specially amongst several of the ladies of the town whom he on more than one occasion had seen socially outside the agency.

Juan even spoke other languages which he had studied such as French and Italian along with having learnt enough Polish from Joanna, in the few months he had been with her to at least be able to communicate and sell tickets to her Polish cliental. Some of these clients being friends of Joanna, who for the most part were newly arrived immigrants; either living in New Jersey or Brooklyn's "Green Point" district.Summer Romance (Part 2)

Regarding the agency itself, it was located on one of the main streets and as for the office; it was a small unassuming space which was comprised of two rooms. One of which was small and in the back even containing its own toilet which served as Joanna's office while the other room was where most of the business of the agency was conducted. It being there where Juan and Bianca attended to the needs of the agency's cliental while Joanna handled special cases in her office such as companies who purchased tickets in large quantities.

The day was definitely hot as summer's heat seemed to be all over the office despite its being air-conditioned yet neither Juan nor Joanna seemed to mind or at least as long as the football matches where there to entertain them. Juan having come to work on that day wearing a pair of blue jeans with the national jersey of the Argentine football team which was comprised of vertical light blue strips next to white ones. This making it nice to look at in summer's heat as it blended well with the sensations of the season.

Juan like most of the men from his country was a tremendous football fan which even surprised Joanna that he had not asked her for time off to travel to South Africa; where he might watch his beloved Argentina play. This even being her fear that he might leave her during the time of the world cup yet Juan informed her that he would not travel to South Africa for the world cup to watch Argentina play unless they made it at least as far as the semifinals. Joanna, for her part feeling relieved to hear this bit of news as the summer was the time when she would need him the most yet this was not so much the reason Juan chose not to travel to South Africa along with many other Argentine fans. His reasons being that he did not wish to spend what was bound to be a lot of money on watching games he was almost sure Argentina would win. It being in his thoughts that only if Argentina were to play in the semifinal or final would it truly be worth making such a long journey yet neither first round encounters nor a second round match nor a quarterfinal one merited a trip to a country as far away as South Africa. This added to the fact that he had already seen Argentina play live in three world cup finals motivated him even less in to making the journey over to South Africa yet he was sure he would go should Maradona and company make it to the semifinal.

As Joanna and Juan watched the match, it seemed strange to Joanna that nobody was either calling or phoning regarding anything. It being as if the whole world (or at least those not present at the match itself) were glued to their TV sets. This even making it possible for Joanna to allow Bianca to take longer lunch breaks during the time of the football games which would be coming in the form of three per day during the time the of the world cup which was being called "South Africa 2010".
