Summer Fun at Discovery Island Water Park
Come and enjoy a fun filled day at Discovery Island Water Park in Simpsonville, South Carolina. The water park is located at 417 Baldwin Road, at Southside Park. The park is between Simpsonville and Mauldin. It is owned and operated by Greenville County Recreation District. Discovery Island Water Park is one of three water parks owned by the district. The others are Otter Creek at Northside Park, 101 W Darby Road, and 7th Inning Splash Water Park at Lakeside Park, 1500 Piedmont Hwy. Both Otter Creek and 7th Inning Splash are new this season. Greenville Recreation also owns the Westside Aquatic Center, 2700 W Blue Ridge Drive, which has an indoor swimming pool.
Discovery Island Water Park has two water slides. The big yellow slide is a body slide and the large blue one is a tube slide. Both slides end up in the leisure pool. There is also a lazy river to float down. The park's newest addition is the FlowRider, a simulated surfing machine. The more daring park guests can practice body boarding, knee boarding, boogey boarding, and stand up surfing. FlowRider lessons are available. Group swim lessons in three ability levels are also available. Other amenities of the water park include the children's play structure, sundeck, concessions, and rental cabanas. No outside food or drink is allowed, but the concession caf sells pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, smoothies, ice cream, and beverages.
The park has sixteen certified life guards on duty at all times, as well as staff to help with the tubes. All staff members are CPR and AED certified. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 10:00AM to 6:00PM and Sunday from 1:30PM to 6:00PM. Rates are based on height, and there are height restrictions on the slides and the FlowRider. Daily passes and season passes are available. Group rates are available for groups of 25 or more with a reservation. Proper swim attire is required.
Birthday parties and FlowRider parties are popular at Discovery Island Water Park. They are available by reservation. Birthday parties, held at the park's Coconut Huts, include pizza, cake, beverages, paper goods, and a personal party host or hostess.
