How many times have you visited a website and saw an offer for a free report or free video? You fill out the form with your name and email and you get what you opted in for but along with it you also get an offer to buy something.

Now, is this wrong? No, it's not wrong but, suppose this is a website or person that you know absolutely nothing about. I am sure this has happened to you countless number of times. What is even worse is that before you can read the report or watch the video, in comes another email making an offer to buy something else and they just keep on coming. This can become a little annoying and you are very likely not to buy anything.

Now, let us reverse the role here. It is your website that someone is visiting and you are the one offering the free gift. Someone signs up to get your product and when they receive it, they also get a slaes pitch to buy something before they have had a chance to check out what they signed up for. You send them another email offering a sales pitch and they never buy from you.

Now you are frustrated because no one is buying from you. What is the problem with this picture.

The problem is that you have no relationship with this person and they know nothing about you except maybe what they saw on your website. They have no experience with you and they have not had a chance to find out anything about you or your product before you began to bombard them with sales pitches.

This turns people off and it rightly shoul. When I purchase something from someone online I want to know something about the person and their product.

If you are new to the internet marketing business, this term may be unfamiliar to you but it's called building your list.

When you fill out a form on someone's website with your name and email and you start to receive those emails trying to sell you something, it is because you have signed up to that persons list.What if instead of trying to sell you something they continued to offer you something for free while at the same time they communicated with you.

What if they would at least let you know that they are genuinely concerned about whether or not you know how to use the product or if you had any questions about it. How about a nice hello and thank you for even taking the time to visit their site and try the free product.

Products are Not Our Business, People Are Our Business!

Products and people, yes they do go together but products are not our business, people are our business. If people sense that you care about them and are not just trying to get their money, they are more likely to become a buying customer. This is part of building a relationships.

Offering them something of value for free is a great way to start building that relationship. Also, offering to help them by aksing them if they have questions about the product. It's called making yourself accessible.

People with questions want answers and we have to be willing and able to provide those answers. Be honest with them and let them know that you may not know the answer to their question but you will do your best to find it for them.

Ths is all a part of building relationships with people and building your online success. I very fortunate now to have a mentor and teacher who helped me to understand this part of the internet marketing business that I did not understand.
