We often think about nightwear in the winter when we want to snuggle up in thick cosy pyjamas and warm fluffy dressing gowns. Not only does cosy nightwear make a great Christmas present but wrapping up at night is definitely cheaper than cranking up the heating. But when summer comes around, your winter warmers can feel stiflingly hot, so much so that it can be hard to sleep.
So what you need is light, cool nightwear that will leave you sleeping sweetly on a hot summer night. Here are your options:
Cotton Pyjamas
Because cotton is a natural fibre it's breathable and will help keep you cool, even if you wear traditional long sleeved pyjamas. For an even cooler experience, try camisole pyjamas with three quarter length bottoms. Another natural fibre that will keep you cool is pure silk. Don't confuse natural silk fabric with satin pyjamas; although both give a luxurious and sensuous feel, satin is a man-made fabric made from polyester and won't give that same breathable feeling. However pure silk pyjamas are expensive so 100% cotton is a much more affordable option.
T-shirt Nightie
An even more affordable choice is a short cotton nightie. While you can wear an old baggy T-shirt this definitely leaves something to be desired in the glamour department! There are lots of very cute nightie designs available and they're very reasonably priced so why not pick up a few?
Satin Chemise
As previously mentioned, satin is not generally a cool fabric to wear at nighttime but if you wear a short, strappy chemise you're unlikely to overheat. This is a much more glamorous style and perfect for taking with you on weekends away. If you prefer though, cotton chemises are also available. A babydoll nightie is another variation on the chemise, usually very short strappy and falling from the bust, sometimes with built in bra cups for shape and support.
Satin Wrap
If you're looking for a light cover-up for when you get out of bed in the morning, your old heavy towelling gown just won't do in summer. A satin wrap is just enough to keep out the chill. It will keep you looking elegant and because they're not bulky they are flattering too. You'll also find they're very affordable; choose one to match your chosen sleepwear for a colour-coordinated look.
