Student Culture: Halloween And Other Masquerade Parties

Students lifestyle

Most young people enjoy their life at college and catch every opportunity to entertain themselves. Despite the enormous academic overload, they manage to allot time to regular meetings and parties. They celebrate both religious and state holidays and even try to keep to the appropriate traditions. Christmas Eve, St. Valentines Day and Halloween are popular among students. Actually, young people use every opportunity for having a party and filling their daily routine with memorable experiences.

Trying to diversify their parties, students may organize masquerades with masks and hand-made or bought costumes. These meetings appear to be an opportunity for realization of the creative potential and improving ones skills of self-presentation. Choosing a character and preparing a costume, a person demonstrates peculiarities of self-perception. Masquerade may become an interesting psychological test. Some people are inclined to associate themselves with negative, others, on the contrary, with positive characters. Wearing masks and funny costumes, students feel free at ease, as it is possible to shift the responsibility for their behavior on the characters they present. Actually, sometimes a mask is helpful for seeing the true faces.

Benefits of participating in masquerade parties

1.Like all other parties, masquerades are helpful for building bridges to ones fellow students and establishing interpersonal contacts in informal atmosphere.

2.Having fun and letting the steam off, young people relieve their stress from their academic load. As they say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. It is important to balance various spheres of life and avoid compensating of one of them at the expense of another one.

3.Preparing a costume and playing a role of a particular character, a student may get rid of certain psychological complexes and improve ones self-presentation skills.
