Stomach Cancer Prevention

The prevention of which is a type of cancer?

Preventing the development of a type of cancer is to decrease the chances that a person develops this disease, through actions that depart from the factors that facilitate the cellular disarray what happens in the very early stages, when only a few cells that are suffering the aggression can turn them into evil. These are called risk factors.

Also, another way to prevent the onset of cancer is known to promote actions beneficial to health as a whole and that, for reasons often unknown, are less associated with the onset of these tumors.

Not all cancers have these risk factors and protection factors identified and, among those already known to be involved, not all can be easily modifiable, such as genetics (family history), for example.

How is the prevention of gastric cancer?

The gut is composed of several different parts, starting with the mouth through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine or colon, rectum and ending at the anus.

The stomach is the organ that sits in the upper abdomen, just below the lung, located between the esophagus and intestine. With the layout of stock, it has the function of exposing the food ingested substances which make these food digest, such as hydrochloric acid, to be utilized by the rest of the body as an energy source and other constitutive factors, such as fibers and vitamins. On being exposed to a series of through this intake offenders, the lining covering the stomach is the target of various chemical agents, or infectious. When this aggression is repeated for several years can produce a transformation in the stomach, which may even progress to a malignant transformation.

The stomach is composed of several cell types, but the most common type of gastric cancer are adenocarcinoma, which involves cells of the glandular stomach.

This type of cancer is very common worldwide and is responsible for most deaths related to cancer.

However it was noted that the cases of stomach cancer are decreasing in the world and it is believed that this decrease is due to:

- to more modern forms of food preservation.

- the increased intake of fruits and vegetables.

- the reduction of food intake too salty, especially some types of meat with salt preserved as the jerky and sun-dried meat.

This type of cancer is also associated with other diseases such as infection by Helicobacter pylori and gastroesophageal reflux.

Gastric cancer, like most cancers, have identifiable risk factors (for more information on risk factors for this cancer read the article "Early Detection of Gastric Cancer" on this site).

Some of these risk factors are modifiable, meaning you can change the exposure that each person has that particular factor, decreasing their chance of developing this cancer.

There are also protective factors. That is, factors that, if the person is exposed, your chance of developing this type of cancer decreases. Among these protective factors there are also those that may be modified, exposing themselves more to them.

Risk factors for gastric cancer and that popularity can be modified are:

Diet

Ingesting large amounts of salt or food preserved by the addition of salt is associated with an increased risk for gastric cancer.

In addition, people who eat a diet low in plant foods are more likely to develop this cancer.

Therefore, eating a diet rich in fiber and salt in moderate amounts is a protective factor for stomach cancer.

This protection for the stomach cancer through diet seems to be particularly related to the intake of vitamin C and beta-carotene. Several studies are underway to confirm the beneficial effect of other nutrients such as vitamin E and selenium.

Independent confirmation of these studies, a healthy diet with fruits, whole grains and vegetables is beneficial to combat various diseases. Therefore, always include in your diet at least five or more servings of fruits, vegetables or vegetables per day, including juices.

Diseases associated with

Diseases such as Helicobacter pylori infection and gastro-oesophageal reflux are associated with an increased risk for gastric cancer.

However, is not yet fully established whether treating these diseases reduces the rates of appearance of the cancer and stops the development of premalignant lesions.

In case you have one of these diseases, talk with your doctor to determine how often you should do tests to find lions precursor of cancer or detect it early.
