Sting Tickets - Headlining Earth Day Concert In Washington Dc
Former Police frontman-turned-solo singer Sting will be pressing Congress to pass
clean energy legislation this year, alongside a handful of other prominent musicians. According to spinner.com, the Climate Rally is set to take place on April 25 and will feature Sting, John Legend, Bob Weir, Booker T. Jones, Mavis Staples, the Roots, Passion Pit, Patrick Stump and Q-Tip. The event is part of the Earth Day celebrations, which encompass a total of nine days.The musical rally will put pressure on legislators to enact a comprehensive climate bill. Sting is probably one of the musicians most recognized for his environmental work, having been an advocate for eco-friendly programs and legislation for several decades. After his stint with the Police ended in 1984, Sting ventured out on his own, releasing several albums over the course of the decade, the most notable being Nothing Like the Sun, which featured the popular single "Englishman in New York." The 1990s ushered in even more success for Sting, who issued The Soul Cages, a touching collection of ballads dedicated to his father, who had died shortly before its release. The title track and "All This Time" went onto become the most notable singles from the effort.
In 1993, he released Ten Summoner's Tales with "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" and "Fields of Gold" making the Top 20 on the charts. 1999's Brand New Day was another huge hit for Sting, ultimately earning him two Grammy Awards. His latest studio effort arrived in 2009; If on a Winter's Night... featured a collection of holiday tracks like "The Hounds of Winter," "Christmas at Sea" and "The Snow it Melts the Soonest."
Aside from being a music man, Sting has also been outspoken supporter of environmental causes over the years, most notably with the Rainforest Foundation, which he started with his wife in 1989. Since then the organization has been supporting indigenous peoples and traditional populations who reside in rainforests. The main goal is to help them conserve their own land and defend their rights. Sting will partake in one of the organization's benefit concerts, scheduled to be held on May 13. In recognition of the Rainforest Fund's 21st birthday, the musician will join Lady Gaga, Dame Shirley Bassey and Elton John at Carnegie Hall.
Sting has also played at the benefit show The Concert for Walden Woods, the post-9/11 rock telethon "America: A Tribute to Heroes," and most recently the telethon Hope for Haiti, an effort to raise funds for the earthquake devastated region.
This English gentleman certainly has his hands full, making new music and participating in benefit shows across the country.
