When you start moving through star trek online you will have to progress through missions. Each mission you undertake will give you skill points. With these skill points your character will become stronger and slowly but surely move up the rankings to higher levels. Overall there are six STO ranks.
The six STO ranks you can earn are:
1 - Ensign
2 - Lieutenant
3 - Lieutenant Commander
4 - Commander
5 - Captain
6 Admiral
Each time you level up in STO you will get a promotion. The high ranks will require quite a few promotions and therefore a lot of skill points. Each rank will need you to earn skill points before it will allow you to move up and make your character better. With the higher ranks you will have access to more accessories including weapons and equipment for both ground and space battles.
How STO Skills Work?
As you move upwards towards the higher ranks you will be given grades. For every ten grades you acquire you will move up to a higher level. When you play the game with a high rank it is much more exciting as you have wider options. Each new ranks will also see you in the hands of a brand new ship.
