Spring Fashion Report - The HOT and the REAL
Last fall's fashion show trends for spring are now hitting the stores, and it can be difficult to know how to stay fresh and modern, yet dress like a "real" person. In my Spring Fashion Report, we'll look at the top 6 runway examples and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe. As you look at these pictures, don't be intimidated by the magnitude of the styles. There is 'trickle" down theory to fashion. The highest level are originals and duplications directly from the designers - available only special order or at the boutiques of the designer, usually only in major metropolitan areas. Next come a long series of copies that water down the style. Designer names at high end department stores are the purest of the mass market garments, then mid-level department stores, finally ending up at lower end stores, up to a year later with only traces of the original concept. So what you see here are the design elements in their purest sense. For our purposes, we want to take what we like, and discard the rest. Many designers are brilliant, strategists of fabric, color and detail. Let's just play, and see what we like? 1. Bright: What you need to know is that vibrant colors are attention getting and youthful. Your social wardrobe is going to be the best place for you to experiment with color. Try these great chinos from Dockers (ensure they are slim, not baggy and NOT pleated). Pair them up with a gingham from the JHilburn line that I sell and you have a terrific, bright and lively spring look. 2. Biblical What you need to know is that this trend is loose and flowing, neutral sandy colors and perfect for beachy vacations. Belted What you need to know is that you don't have to wrap a skinny belt around you twice omitting the belt loops to make a belt more of a fashion statement. White What you need to know is that incorporating this fresh and clean color gives your wardrobe a pop of energy. If this feels stark to you, feel free to soften it by using cream or stone colors, or even a light blue seersucker as in these two Brooks Brothers summer suits. No heavy silk ties here, cotton or a light colored silk. And don't forget the white bucks! 5. Yellow: What you need to know is that this sunny color is fresh, clear and lemony. It is best worn on skin tones that are warmer (have you had your color analysis done??) with blue, green or light brown eyes. Try this LandsEnd shirt or J Crew tie. 6. Short: What you need to know is that you don't have to have your ankles showing to make your clothing feel a little more fashion forward - just trim up the lines of your trousers eliminating extra fabric and have reduce the length so that the "break" is minimal - or even on slim pants is resting on the top of your shoe.
