Spain: The historic Holiday

As citizens of Europe we are spoiled for choice when it comes to historic holiday destinations, and in Britain alone there is an infinite amount of things to do for the historically minded. When it comes to historical intrigue, Spain is also particularly suited as a holiday destination, thanks in part to its rich cultural heritage, but also due to the prevalance of "paradors" throughout the country.

Spain is a big country, and throughout its diverse places you're bound to find lots of cultural and historical intrigue, however if your looking for a lot of culture packed into the one city, then Barcelona has to be at the top of your list of places to visit. Situated in the Catelonia region of Spain, you'll find it has a slightly different flavour to the rest of the country, and its architecture in particular (take the Sagrada Familia for example) will bedazzle anyone with even a passing interest in culture.

Or perhaps you want something a little less cosmopolitan and a little more "Spanish," and with its massive coastline, Spain is home to lots of coastal locations that have serious historic credentials. For example, at the Costa de la Luz you may find a less travelled beach, but you will also find lots of historical intrigue, as the town of Cadiz was once a thriving 16th century port.

For the genuine historic Spain experience, you should certainly consider staying in a Spanish paradors but what makes them more historic than other Spanish hotels? Well unlike many other Spanish hotels a parador will usually be a converted historical building or a building that has cultural significance, therefore whether you want to stay in a medieval hotel or a Spanish monastery, a paradores gives you that authentic historical Spanish experience!
