When talking of fashion you simply can't mention the name Sonia Rykiel. Born a Polish Jew from Paris in 1930 Sonia has made a name for herself all around the world like a pioneer in the fashion design world. If you've have you been yourself, or know someone who has been pregnant - that persons maternity clothes were certainly influenced by Sonia herself.

Sonia is someone who spent her entire life around the creative world, at the age of 17 she worked at a textile shop employed to decorate the window displays to better attract customers. Her husband owned an elegant clothing boutique, also it wasn't until she became pregnant that her real passion for clothing began. At this time in her lifetime Sonia Rykiel was curious why none of her maternity sweaters were comfortable and so took the initiative to design one herself.

Using her husbands supplier Sonia had the first prototype redesigned seven times before she felt it had been finished, this could later be her landmark as she was nicknamed "Queen of Knits" thereafter. While designing sweaters and dresses, selling them from her husbands boutique, she began experimenting with different perfumes and scents, creating one called "The Poor Boy Sweater" making it to the cover of ELLE Fashion Magazine and brought her name to the world.

Sonia not only pioneered maternity clothing she was the first designer to seam the outside of clothing, moreover she was the first to ever print words on her sweaters - something impossible to not find nowadays. In 1980 Sonia was voted among the 10 most elegant women on the planet, proving that knitwear can be worn at any time, throughout any trend.

In 2005 Sonia Rykiel and her daughter Nathalie agreed to bring the fashion of Paris that's so successful there, to america. It had been at this time they opened there in store shop featuring the Sonia Rykiel Woman line. Truth be told there are three Sonia Rykiel fashion boutiques in the united states - which all are prospering.

More recently in 2009 Sonia Rykiel partnered with H&M to design and create a type of underwear which have only now became available. Sonia's life may be a fascinating one, she has certainly influenced main stream culture more so then we can believe. Her lifetime does not start and end with fashion however, she's also published a few children's books throughout her time.
