Siesta On Singapore River

Siesta On Singapore River

Singapore is a vibrant city state with a highly cosmopolitan population and traditions

. It now enjoys great prosperity and attracts a great number of visitors each year, for both business and pleasure. Singapore is internationally renowned for the shopping opportunities it offers, with huge malls as well as smaller boutiques.

The Singapore River today is a highly developed commercial district, the area consisting largely of skyscrapers and multi-storey constructions. The river flows from the Central Area of Singapore to empty into the ocean, a distance of some 11km, but the waterway extends further to the Alexandra Canal.

The Singapore River is of great historical significance as the mouth of the river was the old Port of Singapore, the origin of todays metropolis. At the time of the founding of Singapore by Sir Stamford Raffles, the river area housed merchants, traders and labourers - the pioneers of the city. Since the city initially grew around the port, the river mouth became the focus of trade, commerce and finance.

Today the Merlion, the iconic symbol of Singapore stands proudly overlooking the river. If you choose to sail upstream, you cant help but notice the many colonial-era bridges that span the river. On the banks of the river lie the famous quays: the Boat Quay is probably the focus of Singapores nightlife with an array of high-end restaurants, bars and pubs. Clarke Quay is home to trendy bars and pubs which feature a variety of musical genres, from rock to blues. There are also shops of all kinds, including second-hand and antique shops. Robertson Quay offers a more relaxed ambience, with international restaurants, wine bars and art houses.Siesta On Singapore River

On the banks of the river you will also find world-class museums and elaborate temples and mosques including the Tan Si Chong Su Temple and Omar Kampong Melaka Mosque.

If it is a luxury hotel Singapore you desire, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore is your ideal destination. In a resort setting with exquisite dcor, a laidback atmosphere and sumptuous comfort assures you a stay that will be memorable in every way.
