Since the city initially grew around the port, the river mouth became the focus of trade, commerce and finance.

Robertson Quay offers a more relaxed ambience, with international restaurants, wine bars and art houses.
Make sure to take in the Merlion Park, with its viewing deck which offers a beautiful vista of the city skyline. The neatly planned Parliament House is another sight to experience. On the banks of the river you will also find world-class museums and elaborate temples and mosques including the Tan Si Chong Su Temple and Omar Kampong Melaka Mosque.
