Should Your Child Drive

Should Your Child Drive

As a parent you are, concerned with everything your child does from there first steps to their first driving lesson

. Driving is a serious responsibility, if your child has a handicap, some kind or a learning disability, should your child drive or not.

You rely on the state you live in to make sure that your child is qualified and able to take on the responsibility of driving a vehicle. However, it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure your son or daughter understands why he or she is not, allowed to drive should they fail.

Driving is something that almost every child looks forward to and strives for in his or her life. Therefore, it is a great disappointment to him or her if they should be unable to get their license.

Unless your child is severely handicapped or disabled you should not give up the hope that they can in fact acquire a driving license. The best way to encourage and help the child is to work with them at every possible chance to learn the proper methods of responsible driving.

The drivers handbook is the best tool a parent and child has to work with. If your child has difficulty reading then you can read the book to them. Then you ask the child to explain in his or her words what the book is describing. This will let you the parent knows if they truly do understand the meaning.

If your son or daughter can read have them read the book to you aloud and both of you go over the contents of the book. Then when you are driving, you instruct them while you are driving and let them watch what and how you handle the vehicle. Observation is the way a child learns, by watching you and how you do things.

You can let the child sit in the driver's seat and go through the motions of driving. Begin by putting on the seat belts, positioning the seats in a comfortable position, adjusting the steering wheel, and checking the gauges. Have the child tell you what everything is and what it does inside the car.

Ensuring that your son or daughter completely understands the driver's handbook could take literally months or years so you should not give up. This is an important step in life to the child. A driver's license means that he or she can go places on his or her own and finally be independent.
