Should You See Your Family Doctor Or A Dermatologist?

Many of us have suffered through skin conditions

. Either we were teens with acne or we are suffering from eczema. Perhaps you never suffered a problem, but your children were plagued by it all. Dermatologist visits might help you find the tools to deal with these common skin conditions.

This specialty covers any problems with the skin. Examples are rosacea, psoriasis, skin cancer, birthmarks, hives and aging. The visits with a specialist may be covered for most of these conditions. In some instances you may have to pay out of pocket. For instance, if you chose to have a BOTOX treatment to help fight the signs of aging you will pay out of pocket. If you were there because of your child's severe eczema that would likely be covered.

A consultation appointment will help you figure out what you are dealing with. Be it a rash or your questions about aging. Dermatologist appointments will be like any other, this doctor specialized in the skin and its connection to the body. They will want a medical history, and they will examine whatever you are complaining about. If you are complaining about a suspect mole they may want to remove it and send it for biopsy. Some of these things can be discussed with your family physician, but a specialist can really offer insight that your family physician may not be qualified to.

If you were considering a treatment like BOTOX your family physician may be allowed to administer them. You may feel better with someone who has administered these injections more than intermittently. These injections work best if the protein is injected in the right areas to help smooth out wrinkles. You may find that your family physician does a great job and does enough of these to make you comfortable. You may find that they offer some insight into your teens' acne troubles. You may even find that you have great luck curing rashes with them. In most instances you may find that for your family your needs can be met with your general practitioner.

For some circumstances you may find that you are more comfortable with someone who knows skin inside and out. Dermatologist visits can offer a more specialized view for those troubled by bothersome symptoms or wanting treatments that require a more skilled hand. Perhaps you even have a small infant who has been having a recurring rash. Rashes are so tricky, but if you go to someone specializing in skin you may find that they have the answers you are looking for.
