Shopping For Plus Size Wedding Dresses

No need to settle for anything but the perfect wedding dress - even if you are a plus size bride! Today's hottest designers know that the size of the average woman in America is getting bigger, which means that they are designing and manufacturing more and more wedding dresses that compliment the full figured bride. It's a win-win situation, allowing you to be as comfortable as you are beautiful on your special day.

Look out for two things that will make your perfect dress: ruffles and color.

Ruffles

The trends for plus sized wedding dresses this year and for early next year are all about ruffles. Layers of ruffles on a part or all of the skirt or bodice is a gorgeous detail that inspires fairy tales and princesses, especially if you're going for a strapless ballroom or A-Line gown. It's a feature that transforms any dress into something with a little more wow, and works in just about any fabric. From sexy satin to luxurious organza, ruffles heighten the formality level of a dress. The only thing to be weary of is ruffles that are too big and/or located in the wrong place, since they might add too much volume to your outfit or accent an area you'd rather keep out of the spotlight.

Personalize Your Dress with Color

You can still have the traditional white wedding dress, but if you want to make a personal statement and make it a memorable one, tis the season to add a splash of color. The Queen of all things wedding, Vera Wang, did it, setting the trend for this fall and winter as well as spring 2011. A sash, fine embellishment, or other detail in your favorite color can be added to your plus size wedding dress to add that pizzazz often lacking in monotone outfits. While there is a fabulous collection of dresses with colorful flair, you can also choose something and add a splash of color to it. We recommend matching that color with some of the flowers in your bouquet to achieve a more consistent look. Or, if you prefer to keep your dress all one color, then try adding a colorful hairpiece instead! Doing so makes a statement: you're hip and creative.

Avoid becoming a victim of ill-fitting gowns and compromise. Take advantage of the variety of plus size wedding dresses out there!
