Sex And The City 2 Film Review Online
SATC 2 is the next attempt to bring the ground breaking HBO series to a wider audience at the movie theaters
. And this is far better than the original movie.Well the makers of this movie finally got it right. Where as the first Sex and the City movie felt like just a series of 30 minutes episodes sewn together, this sequel has an actual big time storyline. You can call this movie Carrie"s Excellent Muslim Adventure!
What made the HBO series so fresh and enjoyable was the "in your face talk" about older women sex. Unfortunately the first movie turned down the sex and instead focused on Carrie"s, Miranda"s, Charlotte"s and Samantha"s boring relationships. The movie was a huge hit because of that built-in audience from the TV show. But it left the newcomers bored. The film makers obviously figured out that they would need to bring a better picture the second time around.
And that they did. Apparently New York is no longer big enough to keep these ladies amused, so they all end up taking a trip to the Middle Eastern area of Abu Dhabi. This comes to them via a generous offer from an Arab Sheik, who had hired Samantha to build a PR campaign for his businesses. He offers to fly her and her 3 friends to Abu Dhabi for an all-expense paid vacation.
After that setup the main theme of the movie becomes the collision of the 4 ladies American hedonistic lifestyle and the very reserved Middle Eastern culture, specifically how women are treated in that culture.
It"s hard to see how this movie is going to get shown at all in Middle Eastern countries, including Abu Dhabi, where the majority of the movie is supposed to take place (actually, these scenes were filmed in Morocco). The Muslim society gets a pretty unflattering portrayal, where women are little more than servants. Whether you believe that or not, this could shut the movie out of a very large audience.
Actually, it could be said that the 4 American ladies don"t come off too well either. Some people are already complaining that this movie makes American women look like low-class golddiggers who insult any culture, nationality or sexual orientation that they don"t agree with.
If you can get past the political correctness, or lack thereof, this is a movie you can really enjoy. The excesses are so far over-the-top that you can"t help but laugh. The clothes that the ladies flaunt must have cost a large fortune, the set pieces themselves are so huge that you wonder how there was any money left to pay the salaries.
There are 2 bust-a-gut moments in this movie that you have probably heard about already. The first is in an Abu Dhabi nightclub where the 4 women get onstage and do an impromptu version of Helen Reddy"s "I am woman". The second is where the ladies are being chased and are rescued by a group of Muslim woman. Immediately afterwards the Muslim women remove their robes to show the Western stylish outfits hidden secretly under their wraps. The look on everyone"s face at that moment is priceless.
Sex And The City 2 is really very good, much better than the first movie. If you want to have 120 minutes of fun then you should see this picture.
