So, you think you've got something worth sharing with the world

? If you have a unique product you would like to start selling online, it may surprise you that it's more complicated that you think. Anyone can open a free online store and start selling online immediately, especially if you are handling a known brand or a product that is brand-agnostic. But, to bring your own product line to market is a whole different scenario.

Don't skip ahead by thinking about the deployment method - in the beginning, it's not really a question of whether you should get a free online store and fill it with products (including your own) or if you should build store around your brand.

For any new product line - be it white labeled item you are reselling or something you produced yourself -branding is the first step to take. You need to start by properly setting out the brand strategy. This includes thinking of a timeless name for your line, selecting your target audience demographic, setting roll out milestones and even deciding on the price point.

Next, you need to fully understand your market. Testing the waters is important. Send surveys, give out samples and find out who your top competitors are and what their current market share is. If you already have a free online store running, you might want to consider having a banner for the product, with an introductory price, of course.

Before you get too excited and start marketing your product en masse, think of the logistics. How are you generating the supply for the product? Is this something you will be making yourself? Is it something that can be replicated by others via a process? Are you getting it from a reliable manufacturer? Once you have that end covered, you can now start thinking about the marketing tactic to use.

Launching a new product is probably ten times more difficult than the usual things you do when selling online. You need to exert extra effort just to get people to know your brand without even thinking of the benefits of using it.

Last but not the least, get your free online store to coordinate with your marketing efforts. If you are sending out a banner campaign, make sure you display the same in your own free online store. Same with newsletters announcing the product, you need to also dedicate a page for this in your free online store.
