The Nile Valley does not get much rain so it is a great place to escape the gloomy drizzle of back home. It is great to be able to visit a place without the inconvenience of extreme heat or rain. The highs during this time of year are in the radiant in the seventies with lows that are definitely above freezing. The winter is a great time to leave the cold while taking a pleasant holiday in the Egyptian sun.

You can explore Egyptian culture without having to pay to see it. The pyramids can be seen from extremely far away and it is free to gaze upon these world wonders. You only have to pay to get inside. Many of the pyramids are unventilated and poorly lit. Skip the inside tour to save you and your family some money and discomfort. They can be enjoyed from afar as well. Window shopping is a great way to get experience Egypt without spending a lot. The marketplaces are rich with culture and if you don't buy anything it will not cost you anything. Marketplaces are a fun and interesting way to see an extraordinary side of Egypt without the price of admission.

Food can easily become the most expensive part of a holiday in Egypt especially if you are traveling as a family of four or more. There are some less expensive alternatives. Try falafel for breakfast. Egyptians eat it as a cheap smack or a fast food meal. They are available almost anywhere you go and will not cost you a fortune. The cheapest of all food in Egypt is locally grown fruit. You can purchase fruit from fruit stalls in the marketplaces. Be sure to go to the marketplaces that cater to a mostly local crowd and will get better deals. The mangos, guavas and melons are delicious and healthy. Also, try grabbing a meal at a fish market. Many of the fish markets have fish and seafood restaurants inside that are great places to get an inexpensive and fresh seafood meal. You may have to share your table but the food is delicious. These three budget meals will save you some money.

Aside form food there is another way to stretch your budget further. It is important that you drink bottled water in Egypt but you can save a lot of money by purchasing locally bottled water instead of brands that you recognize. The brands that are less expensive and safe to drink are Siwa and Heyaf. Just be sure to use common scene and check the bottles for tampering when you buy them. Sometimes Egyptians refill empty water bottles and try to resell them. This should not be a problem if you are careful.

When you are traveling as a family on a budget there are always a few things that you may have to compromise to get an affordable price. Obviously if you are worried about price you will not be staying beach front in Alexandria or in an all inclusive resort in Hurghada but that doesn't mean that you can not enjoy the beaches in Egypt. There are some great less expensive hotels that are not on the beach. You might want to forgo the view to save a little money. Another thing that can be compromised to save is alcohol. You will find that because of strict Muslim beliefs drinking is frowned upon in Egypt. This does not mean that alcohol is not available but there are some days especially during the month of Ramadan when it is scarce and hard to find. Drinking is both taboo and expensive so you and your family may want to forgo this extra expense while in Egypt this winter. These little compromises can save you money while still allowing you to enjoy yourselves.

Egypt has the most ancient culture in the world. It is a spectacular place to holiday with your family. Try to act local to save money.
