Save A Trip

Save A Trip

More than likely, I will be flying because I will no doubt want to take a real vacation

somewhere for a change versus hovering around areas of the country where family and friends live. I'm not the only one who is hesitant on the idea of taking a break. In fact, most people are skipping vacations indefinitely until the economy picks back up...which could be a while.

I can still remember the first time my family went to Disney World. I was in the fifth grade and was approximately ten years old. I remember the excitement of having to get all of my homework done and turned into my teachers prior to our departure (at my mother's request) and then the plane flight down to the resort that we were staying at. It was a blast, and my mother, brother, father and I had a lot of fun. We made one more trip to Disney world a couple of years after that and then a few more local trips to theme parks, etc. That was the last time I went on a 'vacation'. When I graduated from college, the United States economy took a turn for the worse. Suddenly, no one was really going on vacations- at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, everyone was opting for 'staycations' instead. They were opting to stay home and give their checkbooks a break for a while.
Save A Trip

While things aren't nearly as bad only a couple of year later, the effect has been far reaching, having affected everyone in some form or fashion. As a way to save a trip to the gas station, you now see more people getting involved in ride-shares at their work place, taking mass transit (where applicable), or simply parking their cars in their driveways and garages so that they can get a little more exercise by riding their bikes, walking or running where they need to go. While it is great that the economic recession has caused an onslaught of environmentally friendly pedestrians and commuters, there is still the general worry over whether or not the economy will return to what it once was a few years ago when times were more prosperous. This isn't to say that people who have recently traded their Escalades in for a Toyota Prius will be rushing back to the dealerships for an upgrade; rather, there is more concern over whether there will be as much worry where jobs are concerned. A large part of the problem is the unemployment rate. Without such a large number of people working, it has had a domino effect on the rest of business and the world.

In the meantime, the more that we practice save driving habits as well as be cognizant of the fact that we don't necessarily need a vehicle to get us everywhere that we have to go, it seems as if there will be hope for a future that won't be filled with quite as much smog, pollution and vehicle accidents due to overcrowding.
