. Devon is popular with families, however, it is also offers the perfect place for a romantic getaway. Towns to visit

Babbacombe:

Babbacombe offers a perfect alternative to Torquay, with its quaint shops, tea rooms, restaurants and fabulous views overlooking Babbacombe Bay. The cliff tops offer beautiful coastal walks. Here there is a unique cliff railway, one of only 16 funicular railways in working use. First opening in 1926, the railway continues to carry passengers down the 73 metre cliff face to the beaches of Babbacombe and Oddicombe. Brixham:

Brixham is a small fishing town positioned opposite the bay from Torquay at the Southern end of the crescent that forms Torbay. The quaint narrow streets are lined with shops selling local memorabilia, refreshments and of course fresh local fish. It is a town which is rich in maritime history and is still today an active fishing port supplying local businesses throughout the South West.

Salcombe:

Salcombe is a beautiful coastal town sheltered inside the Kingsbridge estuary and by making the streets free from cars it has retained peace and quiet. It was and still is a nautical town and has its own maritime museum. Similar to nearby Dartmouth the town has a number of specialist shops, restaurants and galleries and there are many surrounding beaches and coves nearby.

Restaurants in Devon are lucky enough to have fresh local produce right on the doorstep. From Ruby Red Devon beef and fresh vegetables to the gems of the coast such as Bigbury Bay oysters, Brixham crab and lobster you'll be spoilt for choice. There are a range of places to indulge in, including the 2 Michelin star Gidleigh Park, a variety of seafood restaurants such as Mitch Tonks Fishworks in Dartmouth or there are a variety of quaint country pubs dotted throughout the county - head to Dartmoor and you'll be spoilt for choice.

Walks in Devon

Agatha Christie Mile

The Agatha Christie Mile takes in 10 famous Christie Agatha landmarks which are all dotted around the Torquay harbour and seafront. Dart Valley Trail

The Dart Valley Trail is some 16 miles long and takes in both sides of the River Dart in South Devon. For something a little shorter, the Greenway to Kingswear route is 4.5 miles long taking you through ancient woodland along the River Dart. Alternatively the Dartmouth to Dittisham route is around 3.5 miles with the Dittisham to Totnes route covering 8.5 miles.
