Rigid Inflatable Boats - Their Characteristics And Uses

In the world of boating, there are many different type of boats

. They all vary in size, shape, construction, materials, uses, cost, along with several other factors. Inflatable boats and rafts are becoming increasingly popular. However, the term "inflatable" should not be misconstrued to be compared to a child's play toy. Today, there are different types of inflatable boats. They are all safe and sturdy and can be used for a multitude of uses. Fully inflatable boats are popular amongst those who like to travel with their boat or want something that is as easy to store as it is to set up. However, there are also many people who prefer a rigid hulled inflatable boat. This at first appears to be a contradictory idea. However, that is far from the truth.

Rigid hulled inflatable boats are just like how they sound. The hull of the boat is usually made of fiberglass. This gives it better stability with larger sizes and a higher load capacity. The hull is then surrounded by an inflated tube "collar". This makes the ship incredibly buoyant and safe. The tubes that surround the hull are made of fabric that is woven together and then coated in order to make it airtight, watertight, and resistant to corrosion and rips. The inside of the fabric is typically coated with neoprene and the outside is coated with hypalon. This helps to ensure that the boat will not be weakened by UV rays from the sun. Some other materials that the inflatable part of the inflatable boat is made with are PVC and polyurethane.

Rigid hulled boats have a variety of uses and a variety of sizes. They can vary in size drastically. Some are as small as 7 feet long while others can be up to 55 feet long. However, the typical sizes range from 13 to 28 feet. This gives the inflatable boat the ability to serve a number of purposes. Some people use them for recreation activities such as fishing or just going out on the water to have some fun. However, rigid hulled inflatable boats are widely used in a professional setting as well. Many search and rescue boats that are used by life guards are typically made in this fashion. They are also used as transport boats. In fact, some are large enough to transport vehicles.

Furthermore, law enforcement and the military tend to use these boats for a variety of functions.
