Bringing up children has always been a challenge
. And your parenting skills will be tested at every stage of their lives. While discipline is critical, you should ensure that you only impart positive discipline for your children, or else it may work against you thereby causing bigger problems in the future. Discipline may not work if you try to manipulate, punish or control. For discipline to work it needs to be encouraged. It needs to be nourished. The result, you will have a happy household.Discipline needs to be taught, educated and should be trained and this is something you should need to do at some point in your child's life. So, in order to avoid your child's behavioral problems you need to discipline him/ her in the right way. You should teach your child that there are or there will be consequences for every action and that may be the best way to teach your child positive discipline. Thereby, enabling your child to learn that there are repercussions for their actions.
Imposing consequences not only allows you to focus on your child's behavior, but also will help you understand why they did a wrong thing. You should also ensure that you are using positive discipline for your children thereby setting structure and limits. By doing this, your children will begin to understand the do's and don'ts and help them to grow into adults who will have a positive mind frame. It is always a good practice to gift your child with a reward for his good behavior. This will definitely urge them to behave well in order to receive more rewards in their life.
It will always be a challenge to decide when to impose a punishment as you need to make sure that you are focused on the positive things at all times. At a few occasions, natural consequences will help your child to learn, and thereby relieving you of the challenge mentioned above. However, I have seen a different scenario where a major bulk of childhood behavioral problems are caused by imposing severe punishments or imposing punishments at the wrong time by their parents. Many children tend to behave badly in order to gain attention and you may not realize that by punishing them they are getting exactly what they want. In such cases you must ensure that such a bad behavior is being acknowledged, you should ignore and in turn focus on the good behavior.
You might find it difficult to distinguish as to whether your child's behavior is good or bad, but later on it will definitely become easier. Your children will start appreciating after getting the rewards, and they will have an urge or desire to improve. They will realize that their bad behavior isn't winning any accolades and will strive to behave well in order to receive the rewards.
