Chamundeshwari temple
Chamundeshwari temple is situated in the hills of Chamundi. Goddess Chamundeshwari is worshipped here who is known to have killed the demon Mahishashura, after which the city was named Mysore. The royal family of the Wadeyars was a great patron of Goddess Chamundeshwari and the temple was built by them.
Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple
This temple is one of the oldest Mysore temples and is archaeologically significant. Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple is visited by devotees al over the state. This temple has historical importance too which is mentioned in the inscriptions in the temple, ancient books and other sources. This temple was renovated by Krishnaraja Wodeyor III. A tower standing over the main entrance was built by his predecessor. A statue of the king has been added to the attractions of the temple. Many legendary stories are associated with Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple.
Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple
Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple is located on the northern side of the Mysore palace. It was constructed in the year 1951 by Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. The tower of the temple is in Dravidian style. An extraordinary object of the temple is the copper Surya Mandala which was transferred from the palace to the temple by the king.
Sri Kodi Someshwara Swami Temple
This temple is located in the north east region of the fort. It was constructed in 1399 by Sri Kanteerava Narasaraja Wadiyar. In front of the temple there is a "Banni" tree with other few deities surrounding it.
Sri Gayathri Temple
The Gayathri temple is located in the south east corner of the fort. It was constructed by Jayachamrajendra Wadiyar in 1953. There are three shrines dedicated to Gayathri, savithri and Lakshmi within the enclosure. There are sculptures of Shiva, Ganesha, Surya and Mahavishnu which have been curved by famous sculpture Shilpi Sri Siddalingaswamy.
