Reasons to Buy Newtonian Reflector Telescopes

When we think about what a telescope looks like, we think of the long object with the wide opening on one end, and getting narrower as it goes towards the smaller opening on the other end that we look through. We often vision this type of telescope mounted on a tripod pointed towards the heavens so we can gaze at the stars and planets. That would be correct. This type of telescope is a refracting telescope. Another type of telescope that we may not be as familiar with are the Newtonian Reflector Telescopes. These are the wide telescopes that we see, and they have the eye piece for viewing on the side at the top.

Newtonian Reflector telescopes were invented by the man that shares the name, Sir Isaac Newton. Much of what we know about the universe is due to Isaac Newton. A telescope is a great way to study the sky. With a good reflector telescope, you will be able to see such planets as Jupiter and Venus and examine the craters of the moon up close from the comfort of your own home.

Newton created reflector telescopes to combat the rainbow halo problem that was consistent in refractor telescopes of his time. Reflector telescopes use a mirror to reflect light to focus an image rather than a lens to collect the light to focus the image. A small, secondary flat mirror is used to deflect the reflected image out through the side of the telescope. The primary mirror is placed at the back of the telescope tube and the secondary mirror is placed at the top. Due to the small size of the secondary mirror, it does not interfere with viewing image.

As compared to refractor telescopes, Newtonian reflector telescopes when compared price to performance, are the better value. Purchasing a good telescope may prove to be difficult, seeing that there are not many stores that carry a variety of them. If you are really interested in purchasing one, you can shop online. There you will be able to find many different sizes and prices. Ranging anywhere from two hundred dollars to over one thousand, you will be able to see the beauty that the night sky has to offer in way that you only have imagined.

There are many resources online to help you find a telescope that will fit your needs and budget. Learning about astronomy and star gazing can be fun and something that you may end up doing for a lifetime.
