Whether you are a wealthy parent or not, the best inheritance you can impart to your child is by guiding him the right way to become a responsible and respectable adult. Therefore, raising your child the right way is very important, since it is a very big factor, which will determine the kind of person he will become in the future.
There are a lot of things you need to teach your child while he is growing up. Some of the behavioral aspects you need to instill in your child include discipline, moral values, and responsibility. Different parents make use of different ways and strategies in catching their attention and making them listen to the things that they need to learn. It is very important that you provide your child with every support that he needs. However, in guiding him or in making sure that he learns valuable lessons, you will need to be consistent on it.
One of the best ways to guide your child is to teach them about the consequences of their actions. For example, if you told your child that he won't be able to eat ice cream or watch his favorite TV show if he won't get his homework done, then you need to follow through it. If your child did not listen to you, then most likely, he won't get his assignment done. If you let him eat his favorite ice cream or watch the TV in spite of that, then there is no reason for him not to do it all over again. If you keep on doing it this way, then he will soon develop an impression that your threats are simply words, and you won't be following it. Aside from that, he may even take this at school and won't listen to his teacher, which can be embarrassing when your attention is called. Therefore, you need to be consistent on it. If you told your child that he won't be able to attend a party without getting the chores done, then you should follow it. Stick to what you said, and do it consistently, so that your child will learn the consequences of his actions.
On the other side of the coin, there are also positive consequences when positive actions are done. These are called rewards, and you can give your kids rewards, whenever they do something good. Such rewards do not have to be something that you buy for them. A simple appreciation of the good things they do would already suffice.
Take note of this in raising your child, so that they will develop into responsible adults in the future. Aside from that, whenever you show your appreciation in things they did well, their confidence would also be boosted.
