On the first day of his three-day long tour of his parliamentary constituency Amethi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi started his schedule on the Republic Day by calling on to the injured school children in the Raebareli District Hospital here. He also met the parents and relatives and assured all help from his office.
The children were injured while their school jeep collided with a truck while they were on their way to attend the Republic Day function of their school. Four children were killed on the spot and about a dozen injured. Later, Gandhi also visited the mortuary and condoled the families of the dead ones. The families were moved to have their leader amid them in their time of grief. Most of the children were from Ragunathpur Katahali village.
Keeping with his scheduled meeting, Gandhi then proceeded for a worker's meeting in Ahal village in his constituency and also held one-to-one meeting with the gram panchayat elected representatives and took stock of the development work in the area. Gandhi also heard complaints and took note of grievances from the villagers.
A meeting of the workers was also held in Salon block in the Rampur Kasiha village and also laid the foundation stone of a public utility building in the village. Gandhi also visited the Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana premises and took stock of the activities and projects underway for the empowerment of women in the region.
In his schedule on Sunday and Monday, Gandhi is slated to attend many more such meetings and have one-to-one discussions with the local representatives. A meeting of the local MLAs have also been convened during his tour.
