Pushkar, A small village located 13km from Ajmer on the Shore of the Holy Pushkar Lake. Pushkar lake is also known as Theerth Raj, which mean King of Holy dip (Supreme Pilgrimage site). According to Hindu mythology, the Pushkar Lake was created by the Lotus Petals fallen from the hands ofLord Brahma The Lord of creation. The supreme Holiness of this place is because God Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva have done several Yagnas and great legends like Sage Vishwamitra had meditated here for thousands of years.

During the Pushkar Mela, Around two lakh Villagers from different villages gather at Pushkar along with their best decorated camels and cattle for trade. This Fair begins on a Navami and concludes on the Karthik Poornima day, which falls during the month of October or November. It is now largest trade fair of Camels and the accessories needed for the Camel herd such as saddles, saddle-straps. Even decorative items like beads, strings of cowries are also sold here. Around 25,000 camels are been traded every year which makes this the largest and unique camel trade fair.
The striking thing is the ways the camels are traded. They are decorated to the maximum and camel competitions are held. The most hilarious competition during this festival is the camel parade. A large number of people are made to sit on camels and the one which carries the maximum is declared as the winner. Beyond camel race there are a lot other cultural activities and folklore and been celebrated for about 8 days. There are also many stalls of silver Jewelry and ornaments, Nagaur necklaces and Bandhini from Ajmer.
