The Island of Lanzarote remains a firm family favourite holiday destination with many visitors returning year after lured back by the uniqueness of the island. Whilst some tourists tend to stay in the same resorts each time others tend to vary there resort destination so they can experience the full essence of the island.One of my personal favourites is the resort of Puerto del Carmen which started out from humble beginnings as a fishing village like so many of the islands other resorts, but has now blossomed to become the small but attractive town it is today.If you are an avid watcher of the many holiday programmes then you will be familiar with the importance of location and in this regard Puerto del Carmen scores very well indeed. The resort can be found on the eastern coastline, is ideally nestled and at the same time sheltered by the range of volcanoes that extends from the rear of the resort area.The volcanic range forms the perfect wind barrier to the Atlantic winds that blow across the island, and this natural windbreak also means the weather here is the best you will find on the island which is great news if you are planning to spend your vacation lazing away on one of the many sun kissed beaches.Beach lovers will be pleased to know that Puerto del Carmen has a plethora of sandy beaches to enjoy along it's seven kilometre seafront, so if you fancy a different location each day and a spot of gentle exercise then you can simply take a casual stroll along the recently refurbished promenade which is also ideal for a romantic walk later in the evening too.Water conditions here are ideal for swimming and if you have kids they will probably have great fun snorkelling and seeing a number of fish that can be found very close to the beach line so they will not have to venture very far out at all.If you tire from the beach then there are also a number of affordable boat trips that you can take locally as well. These range from a trip on the glass bottomed boat which runs along the coast of the resort, to whale and dolphin watching trips. And if you fancy a full day out then take a trip to Fuerteventura on the Blue Delfin catamaran which has over 30 submarine viewing windows to spot the local marine life.You could also visit the local golf course or even enjoy a visit to the tropical park which is great for both kids and adults alike.One of the most enjoyable aspects of a holiday is of course not having to do the cooking and with an extensive range of restaurants with culinary delights from all over the globe, eating out in the evening is a positive joy. The restaurants are well spread around the resort area but if you like fish and a Canarian atmosphere head down to the old harbour and you won't be disappointed in the slightest.On the accommodation front Puerto del Carmen comes up trumps with a wide range of accommodation to suite most budgets with occupancy available for singles, couples and even large family groups. The local apartments tend to be low rise in nature and are very well landscaped so they do not stand out as the typical apartment complexes that can be found elsewhere in Spain. Also the villas here are very well appointed with nearly everything you will need on your holiday as they are often used by the owners themselves at different times during the season.Wherever you stay in Lanzarote you will be hard pressed to find fault but Puerto del Carmen does tend to top the favourites chart for many visitors.
